Perfecting Your Brew: An AeroPress Guide
The AeroPress is a versatile and beloved brewing method known for its ability to produce a smooth, rich cup of coffee. Follow this guide from Stanford Alumni Craft Coffee to master the AeroPress and enjoy a consistently excellent brew.
Step 1: Gather Your Equipment
You’ll need an AeroPress, AeroPress filter, coffee grinder, fresh coffee beans from Stanford Alumni Craft Coffee, a kettle, a timer, a scale, and a stirrer.
Step 2: Boil the Water
Boil water and let it cool for about 30 seconds. The ideal water temperature for AeroPress brewing is between 195°F and 205°F (90°C – 96°C).
Step 3: Grind the Coffee
Weigh out 17 grams of coffee and grind it to a consistency slightly finer than sea salt. Freshly ground coffee will provide the best flavor.
Step 4: Assemble the AeroPress
Insert a paper filter into the AeroPress cap and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste. Assemble the AeroPress by placing the plunger in the chamber and setting it upside down (inverted method).
Step 5: Add Coffee and Water
Place the AeroPress on the scale and add the ground coffee to the chamber. Tare the scale to zero, then pour in 220 grams of hot water. Start your timer as soon as you begin pouring.
Step 6: Stir and Steep
Stir the coffee and water mixture for about 10 seconds to ensure even saturation. Let the coffee steep for a total of 1 minute.
Step 7: Attach the Filter Cap
After 1 minute, attach the filter cap to the AeroPress. Carefully flip the AeroPress over onto your mug.
Step 8: Press
Slowly press the plunger down with steady pressure. The entire pressing process should take about 20-30 seconds. Stop pressing once you hear a hissing sound.
Step 9: Enjoy Your Coffee
Remove the AeroPress from your mug and give the coffee a gentle stir. Enjoy the rich, full-bodied flavor of your AeroPress-brewed Stanford Alumni Craft Coffee.
